Alfresco Share and its future
Last week Alfresco has celebrated “Alfresco Devcon 2018” in Lisbon. Public goal for this conference was mainly technical but, also, let the opportunity to explain their roadmap. During these days Alfresco dropped a couple of shocking news about the future of Alfresco Share. Summarizing:
- ADF, based in Angular 2, is the future.
- Alfresco Share, at certain moment, will be deprecated.
- There won’t be any replacement for Alfresco Share.
After this news, public reaction was….
It’s time to recap the situation: Will we be able to manage it? How? What about our costumers? What can we do to assume the change? Don’t panic. Here there are some ideas:
- Develop a custom ADF application for your costumer and make the transition step by step. For this option you need to take in account that you should also deliver a training to them and keep it simple.
- Build you own solution in other technology and consume the Alfresco APIs.
- In any case, you can use Share until official deprecated date is announced.

If you are thinking to go for your custom App based on ADF, pay attention on this: Denys Vuika, an Applications Platform Developer at Alfresco, presented “Using and extending the Alfresco Content Application”. He showed a basic application based on ADF which looks a really nice starting point to migrate from Alfresco Share to “something else” based on Angular (compatible with ADF). You have this project available on github just here.
